NUOVI FRAMMENTI DI ANDREA DI CARISTO

Abstract

FURTHER FRAGMENTS OF ANDREAS OF CARYSTUS

The treatise of Aetius of Amida is an important source for many medical works today lost. The work Libri medicinales deals with many fragments of Herophilus followers, first of all those by the ophthalmologist Demosthenes Philaletes. On the basis of careful examination of unpublished books of Aetius, namely Books X and XIV, I propose here to ascribe two fragments to Andreas of Carystus. For the first time I present the Greek text of both: one on a plaster called pardalis to heal dropsy and a remedy for inflammation of the anal tract.
