FURTHER FRAGMENTS OF ANDREAS OF CARYSTUS

Irene Calà

Abstract

The Libri medicinales by Aetius of Amida are an important source for many medical works lost today. This work includes many fragments of Herophilus followers, first of all those by the ophthalmologist Demosthenes Philaletes. On the basis of careful examination of Aetius' unpublished books X and XIV, I suggest to ascribe two fragments to Andreas of Carystus. For the first time I present the Greek text of both: one on a plaster called pardalis to heal dropsy and a remedy for inflammation of the anal tract.
