While placing itself in a rather overexplored field the relationship between art and medicine and science, or, artistic and figurative representations of illnesses and maladies it manages to keep abreast from the most obvious pitfalls of the genre. In fact, while avoiding some of the jargon and many of the niceties of art and cultural historians disciplinary discussions, it provides a very useful confrontation between medical history, in its internalist sense, and accurate analysis of paintings [...]
